Dr Dean Chan

Dean Chan teaches in the honours and postgraduate programmes at the School of Communications and Arts, Edith Cowan University, in Perth, Western Australia. His research and publication interests mainly focus on diasporic Asian cultural production (especially visual arts, comics and graphic novels) and East Asian digital games. He is the co-editor of Gaming Cultures and Place in Asia-Pacific (Routledge, 2009).

Dean has been invited to speak at several national conferences and arts symposia including the 2010 Encounters—Australia and China Symposium and 2007 Arc Biennial Symposium; and he is regularly commissioned to write for art journals, periodicals, monographs, and exhibition catalogues. He has previously served on the boards of Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Artists Regional Exchange (ARX), and Art Association of Australia and New Zealand. At present, he is an Executive member of the Asian Australian Studies Research Network and Associate Editor of Studies in Comics (Intellect Journals).

Dean is the founding convenor of the International Network for Diasporic Asian Art Research (INDAAR).
